2 YEARS

Well we made it! Two years of many blessings having our sweet baby Cara in our lives! Although she hasn't been a baby for a while now, she will always be baby Cara to us! We had a quiet birthday celebration just the 4 of us on her birthday (hopefully, if I can manage to get it all done we will be having a joint party eventually), went out for ice cream, got balloons and opened gifts, it was nice.

At her well visit she got another perfect report, because it was rainy and gross it was just her and I for this visit and that was nice to just be one on one with her. She is a TOTALLY different child when it's just the two of us! She weighed 23.2 lbs. (9th %) she is 34.5in tall (69th %) and her head is 46.5cm (23%) and don't let that 23% fool you cause this child is sharp as a tack!

As far as milestones she is hitting them completely different from Addie, but then moving faster past them than Addie as well. She throws a ball overhand like a champ(we may be in for t-ball or something, which I know nothing about), she can do a split (and it is so cute, those tiny little legs, even cuter that she knows what a split is), she can do a somersault also(which Addie still can't do, of course I don't think I could either if I tried), and loves to stand on her head (gymnast? quite possibly). What an active little thing she is, and that's probably why she is so stinking tiny! Dr. Wiley is not concerned about her weight because she is healthy and growing(anyway what woman wouldn't want to be tall and slender) but it looks like we are going to stick with whole milk for a little longer just to get that extra fat in her... Dr. Wiley even stated that she was marking off 5yr milestones for her. She didn't have to get shots this time, but she did get a finger prick and we all know that that is usually worse than the shot because they have to stand there and keep mushing your finger to get all that blood in the vial, so I, being prepared for her reaction because I do know her well after all, braced myself and her(holding one arm and leg) for the prick. One...Two...Three...nothing. Absolutely, I thought I might pass out, she didn't flinch, didn’t breathe in deeply, frown, nothing. Just sat there as pretty as you please and let nurse Susan prick then squeeze her finger until her heart was content. She let her put the band aid on (which Addie wouldn't have, she hates band aids) and then quietly asked me after she left to "take sticker off, please".

She asks for nothing without please following shortly behind the request. Thank you or thanks (whatever mood she is in) is always right after receiving whatever it was that she was asking for. Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am, Yes Sir, No Sir all follow suit. Seriously she has picked up manners quicker than we would have EVER expected and she remembers, we still have to prompt the big one every now and then! Her vocabulary is through the roof and her words are enunciated SO clearly! She has mastered 6 word sentences already and can have a complete (back and forth) conversation with you like it is nothing. It amazes me the stuff that she understands, in other words we DO NOT break down our adult language for her (and didn’t for her sister as well) and they both seem to roll with it so well understanding without skipping a beat. The other day she was asking my mom to hold something and Mama repeated her saying "hold that" and Cara responded with "hold that...this." My mom and I stopped dead in our tracks and looked at each other, she knew enough to correct herself. It really floored both of us, I mean Addie has always been proper in the way she spoke and corrected herself often without prompting, but this was the first time we had witnessed Cara do it. She will promptly reply to something being done like “that’s better” or “there we go” which I just think is adorable. Today my Mom called me and said that after telling Cara that she was gonna fall off the chair she repositioned herself and then said “perfect.” Needless to say I can’t wait to get home and hear that one out of her mouth. She follows directions well, even multiple directions in one request. The fact that she comprehends certain words and can use them in the correct context just amazes me, she uses “also and too” a lot and always correctly, she will tell me “right now!” or “later”. She had one grape in her bowl and walked up to Addie and said “want last one, Addie?” then she proceeded to put the grape in Addie’s bowl and told her to “finish, that one.” She recognized that it was the “last” one and then told her to finish and I don’t recall ever hearing her use the word finish before either.

She can count to, well around 15 but kinda bounces after 10. Up to 5 we get flawless, from 5-10 gets better each time and we are still learning up to 15. She doesn't yet know her ABC's fully, even though the other day I was wearing an Old Navy hoodie and she climbed up in my lap pointed to the "A" in Navy and said "A for Addie". She is getting really good at puzzles and puts the alphabet one together well and when we sing some and stop she will fill in the blanks, but we still can't get her to recite the whole thing. We think that she knows her colors because she will pick up something and say "want purple one" or something along those lines and then pick up something purple. We can ask her to give us something "pink" and she will, but when asked to tell us what color something is she won't verbalize it. But I am pretty sure that orange is her favorite color right now because she will always ask for the orange item when given a choice.

She loves to sing, she likes the head, shoulders, knees and toes song it is so cute because she does the motions with it, but sometimes I will catch her singing it to one of her stuffed animals or baby dolls and she points to their body parts as well. She sings happy birthday to Dalton just about every night, she just adores Dalton. Most of the time though she just hums tunes and makes up her own songs. She, like her sister, loves to dance and perform for us and sometimes even the camera. She prefers to call Addie, Addieline. It is so cute, she just started calling her that one day, and we don’t even call her Adeline that much. But whenever she is referring to her or speaking to her she will tack on Addieline and she will refer to her as such 97% of the time. We were at a store yesterday and we were looking for Chris and Addie so I told Cara to call Addie she immediately yelled “Addieline, are you?!” (I asked for Addie and got Addieline, sweet).

The last two years have been simply amazing watching this little miracle grow so big, I wonder what the next two years will bring and especially with her becoming a big sister!

Resolutions

I am a little late on these, but what's new...  I guess better late than never and I have been working on them I just haven't put them into writing.  For 2013 here are my personal New Year's Resolutions, in no particular order.

Pay off debt- this is an on going thing for us, but this year I am going to strive to pay things off and keep them paid, let's do this Dave Ramsey!

Be closer to God- I really need to spend more time in my personal relationship with God.  And now that I have been promoted to another department who aren't very keen on being friendly to the people around them, I think that I will be able to have a lot of alone time to reflect on said relationship.

Be more involved in church- We are so blessed to be a part of a truly amazing church,  a church that is all about the Blood of Christ and what Jesus did out of love for us.  This excites me in so many ways,  God is so good and I feel so blessed that He has brought us to this wonderful place where his people can worship like no other.  Although we are involved, I feel like there is still more that I have to offer, so I will try and search my God-given talents to see what I can do to help our mission.

Be a better mother- I need so badly to calm my temper with the girls.  I know that it will not get easier with the third on the way, but with God's help I feel that I can make a conscious effort to think before I get upset.  I love those girls more than life itself and I absolutely hate myself sometimes when I don’t think things through before they happen.  Dear Lord, please give me the strength.

In Addition

I just had to add something else to Cara's progress, since I posted that last post she has really started streaming words together!  She walked up to me the other night put her hands in the air and said "pick me up!"  forget two word sentences she is all over talking almost complete sentences,  now she does get lazy when she is irritated and refuses to talk properly, but I am really not gonna complain since she is doing so well anyway.  Everybody should be able to slack off sometimes.  She brought me her milk cup this morning and told me "more milk, please."

That being said she is doing awesome with her manners too!  She will say excuse me (used to be excufee) when she burps of passes gas usually without prompting.  She says thanks almost always without prompting when someone gives her something and please, well peeese she uses that one as leverage, I think.  When she wants candy for breakfast (which is almost every morning) she will pull out the longest sweetest PEEEEESE!!!  Not a chance!  It is so sweet and ALWAYS puts a smile on my face, but no candy for breakfast!  She will sit down  in the floor then pat the floor next to her and look at me and say "sit down here".  Her Yes Ma'am and Yes Sir are intermittent, but it really tugs at your heart strings when you are calling her down for something and you say "do you understand me?" then this sweet little "ys'm" comes out.

She can tell you where Mommy works at  "le a cy"  and we are currently working on where Daddy works "far O".

I love talking to this little girl!  She will repeat just about anything you say and usually it is right on.  The other night Chris was trying to get her to say Supercalifragelistic,  it was cute,  I need to get that on video.

Caraline Rayne

How is it that just a moment ago I was cradling a dark haired, blue eyed beauty in my arms for the very first time and now I am frantically chasing my spunky little blond bombshell.  21 months old...ALREADY!!  How did that happen??  How could I have been so slack that she has been a year old for 9 months now and I still haven't posted a blog about that.  Well let me tell you...

This sweet child of ours NEVER STOPS MOVING!

Let me recap just a bit to catch you up to speed:

At her 15 month well she still weighed 20lbs 7.9oz and she was 30 1/4in long with a head cir. of 45 1/4cm.  She had a little over a 100 words in her vocabulary and as Dr. Wiley stated she was still giving her big sister a run for her money.

Shortly after that, right after she turned 16 months she taught herself how to unscrew the side of her crib, so if she wasn't doing that she was learning how to climb out on her own.  Needless to say to insure that she didn't fall out and hurt herself and so that Chris and I didn't have to watch the monitor all hours we had to start training her in the toddler bed.  At 16 months, this is not an easy feat....just trust me.

At 18 mos she weighed in the 12th percentile in her weight at 21lbs 7.7oz, I guess she is gonna be smaller than Addie after all.  It just seemed that since she was bigger at birth then she was a bigger child, but that is obviously not the case.  She was 31 1/2in long and her head was 47cm. A perfect bill of health.

Last month we moved the girls into the same room and turned the nursery into a playroom, so far this is working out for us well.  It took us a weeks or so to get acclimated on how to work bedtime routines, but I think we have it down now.  It's so sweet to walk down there and see them laying in the bed together reading.  They even refer to it as "their" room now.  Having the playroom now really helps to keep the toys out of the rest of the house also! Win-Win!  With moving rooms came moving beds, so now little Miss Caraboo sleeps in a big, big girl bed!  And she makes use of ALL of her extra room!

All along the way her vocabulary has grown to over 200 words, too many to keep up with, that's for sure!  But in the last month alone she has started enunciating (SO CUTE, I will post video)  and adding double and triple word sequences, who knew she would be a better talker than her sister.  But I will tell you sometimes I feel like this baby will come out talking bc when I put Cara down at night she is just non stop rambling about anything and everything!

She can count 1.2.3 and when asked to say her alphabet she will say A.B.C, but every once in a while when Addie is reciting her abc's she will try and sing along, but she is far from knowing the complete alphabet.  We are working on her colors and most times she can get some of them, but she still has a way to go on that as well.  She knows all of her animal sounds and mimics other sounds like bells and sirens very well.  She knows all of her body parts, she can point them out if we ask her to and she can say what they are if we point to them.  She really amazes me with all of this stuff, when I am unaware that she knows half of what she does!

Although I was not planning on potty training until after the baby came, Cara has a different plan in mind.  She started out about a month and a half back every time we took Addie to the potty, she would have to go and eventually she was prompting us to take her.  She would be playing then stop mid-play yelling poo poo and running towards the potty(seriously cute!) So for a while it was just pooping on the potty (which is backwards from Addie) and now she will do both, but she is still a little confused as to which is which, like this morning she was sitting at the table waiting for me to fix her breakfast when she jumped down ran to the bathroom  saying poo poo, poo poo!  When we got there of course she is in this "SELF" mode lately, she had to pick the stool up move it and put it in front of the potty, she sat down and peed.  Right word or not, I am super proud of this little stinker!  Now, she isn't fully potty trained and I am still not planning on actually working on it until the baby gets here, but if she happens to train herself beforehand, I am not going to put up a fight.

I guess that about sums up our youngest, she is just a bundle of sweet and spicy and you just don't know her until you know her.  She is so passionate which can be hard for Mommy and Daddy at times, but I am thankful for her strong will.  This will keep her straight when she is older.  I know I have said this before about Addie, but I know God has big plans for her, for both of them.  I feel so overwhelmed with how blessed we are!

Say Whaaaat?!

Wow it has been, as the youngins' would say, a hot minute since I have been in here. First let me say thanks to you all for being so faithful and patient with me while I get with the program.  More to come soon, I promise but for now I just wanted to share some super cuteness...

Scene: Mommy and Cara sitting on the couch together, Addie in the chair as Daddy walks in the door from work.

Daddy: Hey girls, whatcha doin'?
Cara: (as she holds up her sippy cup of juice) dinks!(drink)
Daddy: You got a drink, whatcha drinkin'?
Cara:(without skipping a beat) Toffee!(Coffee)

Scene: In the dentist's office while waiting for the dentist, Addie is talking to the hygienist.  The hygienist notices Addie's BIG SISTER shirt and comments on it.

Hygienist: Do you like being a big sister?
To which Addie responds;
Addie: Yes! except I don't like it when Sparky takes my toys because he takes them and I can't play with them. ( I, getting ready to inform her of Sparky's actual existence, she proceeds without taking a breath) Um, Sparky is my imagination dog.
Then she hops back to her seat and continues reading her book.
