Big Girl Happenings

Last week Addie had a virus, she started running a fever Tuesday evening about 7:30pm and by my lunch on Wednesday it was up to 103.2.  I called the doctor and they had us take her in immediately.  The funny thing is, is that she was acting fine.  When her fever was really high she would just lay in my lap, but for the most part she was talking, playing, eating, etc...  My mom and I took her in and by the time that we got to the dr. her fever had dropped to 101.1 so she was running around pointing out the fish, pumpkins and flowers on the wall, she even made friends with a little boy in the waiting room.  The room that we were placed in was the farm room and that was perfect because lately Addie has really been into her barnyard animals.  She was bouncing from wall to wall  pointing out the animals and making the sounds they make, it was really kinda humorous.  When the dr, came in she stopped and screamed SHOES as she pointed to her feet (this to me was odd, because usually when the dr. comes in she stops talking and gets all shy).  Everything looked great she said, then she looked at her throat...It was fiery red she said, well you know what that means...  At least I did(all too well), a strep culture, I had no clue how she was going to do having something stuck down her throat.  I think I was more nervous than her and she took it in stride, no problem at all!  The rapid came back neg. but they sent it off also.  The dr. was telling us that there had been an epidemic of that virus going around it was supposed to last 3 days from start to finish with a sore throat, fever and maybe a headache.  By Thursday morning she was still warm but I am pretty sure her temp wasn't over 100.  We have really been blessed with a healthy, happy child.  This is only the 2nd time that she has ever been sick and just like before she was in pretty good spirits the whole time.

Tuesday night after I put her to bed she woke up crying so, not really knowing how the sick baby stuff works, I got her up and rocked her.  Wednesday night it seemed as if she was scared to go to bed, so I rocked her.  Thursday night (not wanting to get into the habit of rocking her every night) I put her in bed and left the room, she screamed, she wouldn't even lay down in her bed just stood there staring at the door.  I was so scared that she had had something happen to her and us not known it and that was why she was "scared" to go into her room at night.  Friday I called the doctor and the only thing the nurse could tell me was to try reading her a book before bed.  So that we did, Addie and I sat in her big girl bed while Chris sat in the floor and read us a story.  Let me just add as a side note it has been SO WONDERFUL having him at home every night with us!!!  For some reason though I keep feeling like it is going to end, probably just because it is so good.  It took me 30 min of her getting out of bed and me putting her back in before she actually went to sleep.  Then she woke up at 5 and I put her in bed with us, I know I really shouldn't have done that and I am full aware of it(because I really don't want to get into the habit of having her sleep with us either).  Saturday night same routine then 1 hour of up and down before she fell asleep, she was up at 1:30am and it again was up and down until 3am.  When she got up at 6:30am I did let her back in bed with us to watch some Barney.  Sunday night, same routine story time with just Mommy because Daddy was building her a storage area for her toys she whimpered a bit, but never got up, slept until 6:30am!!  Success!!!  Since then she has been going to bed, in her big girl bed, at the right time getting up between 7 and 7:30 like usual, not to mention naps have been a breeze without any issues whatsoever.  What an amazing little girl we have!  Wednesday night she did fall out of the bed for the first time, but all I did was put her back in bed and she was fine.

Since her 18 month well visit she has started putting a few words together it just seems to work out that way for us, I mentioned my concern to Dr. Wiley at our appointment and sure enough a week later she was doing it.  So it looks as though she is behind when she actually isn't.  She has got bye bye and night night down.  She also says show me, excuse (scuse) me, another(nother) one and beep beep.  She knows B and O of the alphabet and 2 is still her very favorite number.

The other night she was counting her money before she put it in her piggy bank and she would take a coin and set it down and she said B then another she said C, then D.  It was so cute, at least she has the concept of counting one by one, now we just need to show her to count with numbers not letters.

2nd Child Syndrom

Even though Gazoo isn't here yet I can see that she is already falling into the second child stereotype.  The other day I was in the elevator with another lady from another department when she started to make small talk.  Ok so you might could blame it on my hard of hearing but when she asked me when I was due I replied "oh I am in the contact center" not that she didn't know that already, because I see her all the time, but this is how much I actually think about being pregnant.  I know I am pregnant, I feel pregnant, I look pregnant, but for some reason I forget.

I love this little girl so stinkin' much and I think about her often, but there is just so much going on.  I even find myself accidentally calling her Yoda.  Poor thing, but rest assured when she arrives, there will be no forgetting her name or her place in our little family.
